Wandering is a risk that the nursing home must recognize and control through its plan of care. The nursing home must provide each resident with the appropriate level of supervision to prevent dangerous wandering habits. Exit doors should be alarmed to prevent residents from leaving the facility unsupervised. Personal alarms can also be used for the most serious wandering residents or residents prone to leaving the facility.
